Chesapeake names new parks and recreation director

CHESAPEAKE City Manager William Harrell named Michael D. Barber the city's new director of Parks and Recreation, according to a news release today. Barber, who was the assistant director of parks in Newport News since 2004, will start in Chesapeake on April 2. He was selected from a pool of 94 applicants for the job left vacant by the previous director, Michael Kalvort, late last year.
